Multicultural Church of the Brethren congregation in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on Chicago’s west side seeks a part-time Church Youth Worker.  We seek someone with a passion for developing discipling relationships with young people; leadership and team-building skills; experience working with young people, education, eagerness for spiritual growth and a faith consistent with the Brethren tradition of witnessing for peace.  Begin fall 2008. Salary: $15-20,000 based on experience. Apply by August 15, 2008.

Church Youth Worker – part-time

First Church of the Brethren is a multicultural Church of the Brethren congregation located in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on Chicago’s west side.  Current youth ministries include Sunday School, tutoring program, Vacation Bible School, church camp, and occasional outings.

We’re looking for someone with:

• A passion for young people, and the ability to build discipling relationships with them
• A life committed to Jesus Christ
• Leadership and team-building skills
• Experience/education (college degree a plus) with young people and eagerness to continue learning through conferences, workshops, courses
• A faith consistent with the Brethren tradition of actively witnessing to peace

We anticipate that you will:

• Work with the congregation to develop and implement a comprehensive ministry with urban children and youth
• Connect with parents and church members in a way that supports the children and youth of our community
• Be a Christian role model and mentor for young people developing their leadership potential
• Teach and lead Bible-based studies and service-based excursions
• Commit to this ministry for a minimum of two years

This new part-time position with an expectation of 20 hours per week will begin fall 2008. Salary range: $15-20,000 based on experience; no paid benefits.
