POSITION DESCRIPTION
OPENING FALL 2008

Church Youth Worker

Job Summary

Develop and implement a ministry to children and youth under 18 years old which:

1.      Encourages the development of close Christian friendships based on trust and acceptance.

2.      Draws on gifts and interests within the congregation for ministry with young people.

3.      Allows for spiritual growth and commitments.

Job Duties

1.      Develop and implement special Christian educational and service ministries for youth and children based on current needs and interests.

2.      Provide leadership, recruit, train, and support the congregation in work with youth and children.

3.      Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, events and worship participation.

4.      Develop and empower youth for leadership.

5.      Develop relationships with parents of involved children and youth to provide guidance in the whole family system as needed.

6.      Develop and coordinate written communication for the children/youth ministry to share with the congregation and the community.

8.      It is expected that the Candidate will participate in the life of the First Church of the Brethren congregation and will respectfully engage the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

Responsibility and Accountability

The worker will be accountable to a supervisory team consisting of the pastor and one other Church member.

 

Terms

This new part-time position with an expectation of 20 hours per week will begin Fall 2008. Salary range: $15-20,000 based on experience; no paid benefits.
